AT&T goes into full suck mode
AT&T has a different network compared to cable companies, they also have billions in profit, so it would seem wise even common sense to invest in your network like Verizon is doing with project Fios right? Well you don’t understand the inherent greed that lives and breaths at AT&T, this company is nortorious for being really cheap.
Instead AT&T is milking every last drop from copper by deploying VDSL (u-verse) technology which isn’t very good for TV and internet data. The bandwidth is only 25mbps to most users which is not enough for high def tv. It won’t be able to keep up with Comcast Docsis 3.0 and Verizon Fios service which are both going to be a lot faster.
What makes matter worst is that despite the slow speed of DSL/VDSL AT&T has choosen to trial bandwidth caps as well. At $1 per gig over your cap it’s going to add up for some poor users when they get hit with the first bill.
It’s time for AT&T to build a ‘real’ state of the art network and charge reasonable rates for it as well. If there are to be caps they should be the highest in world like 1000gigs or more.
AT&T proposed caps:
AT&T Basic (DSL only) Up-to 768 Kbps 20 GB per month
AT&T Express Up-to 1.5 Mbps 40 GB per month
AT&T Pro Up-to 3.0 Mbps 60 GB per month
AT&T Elite Up-to 6.0 Mbps 80 GB per month
AT&T Max (U-verse only) Up-to 10.0 Mbps 150 GB per month
I guess we will all have to look around for alternatives, I think Covad is still in business.
